Once again, I'm asking for your support...
As I work to keep representing Hutchinson's 102nd District in the Kansas House
I recently filed for the opportunity to represent the 102nd District in Hutchinson for another term. It’s a role I’ve been honored and privileged to hold. The work of being your representative in Topeka has been challenging, humbling, and rewarding.
With your support, I’ll proudly represent Hutchinson in the Kansas House of Representatives for another two years. I work hard to create meaningful change for Kansas and our community, and I am proud of the successes we’ve achieved.
I have built relationships and alliances with a broad group of lawmakers to raise awareness of the issues that affect Hutchinson and Reno County - and turn that awareness into policy. I work with all of my effort to make a real difference in Topeka, and when necessary, I call attention to the legislative processes and corruption that block our progress.
These efforts have resulted in a number of important wins for our district. Last year, I successfully worked with my colleagues to decriminalize fentanyl testing strips in Kansas. This was a huge step in recognizing the value of life for those in active addiction and it has already saved lives. In the same spirit, I again worked with a bipartisan group of lawmakers this year to pass a Good Samaritan law. This allows people to call 911 during a drug overdose without the fear of arrest and prosecution. The Governor just signed this law, and it, too, will save lives in Kansas.
I’m also proud of my work over the past six years in getting the Kansas Contract for Deed Act signed into law. This legislation creates some basic protections for those who buy a house on a land contract. It also protects lenders by requiring anyone selling a home on contract to have a clear title to do so, and will help prevent financially vulnerable families from being exploited simply because they want to achieve the American Dream of home ownership.
I’ve also worked with other community-minded members of our local delegation to support legislation that’s good for Hutchinson and Reno County. I’ve consistently leveraged the role of State Representative to help our community - whether that has been helping get our own Hutchinson license plate, joining other area lawmakers in honoring our Veterans through renaming a section of highway, supporting rural economic development initiatives, writing letters of support for local projects, or standing up to protect Main street businesses in Hutchinson.
As rewarding as all of that is, my favorite part of the job is helping people solve problems they encounter with the government. I’ve helped families navigate the bureaucracy of Topeka to address tax issues, tackle unruly paperwork, overcome unemployment barriers, and address licensing and regulatory concerns.
Hutchinson is my home. I care about this community and the people who live here, whether or not we agree on the issues. My loyalty is to our community and our state, and I’ve demonstrated that in my words and my deeds. I try to be responsive to constituents who reach out to me. I listen to the concerns and issues they face in their lives, and what I learn informs the work I do in Topeka.
I’d like to keep doing this work - For Kansas. For Hutchinson. For You.
If you’d like that, too, I’d love your help in supporting my campaign financially, with your time and effort, and, most importantly, with your vote on Tuesday, November 5.
Sincerely,
