It's the final (election) countdown
At long last, we *might soon be able to put politics behind us for a minute
There’s just one more week until the Nov. 8 election.
Seven days left to the Final Countdown.
You didn’t really think I was going to leave a 1980s hairband reference just sitting there on the table did you? 😂
In just a week all the political ads with turn off. You’ll be able to once again browse the internet or watch football in peace, without the the agony-filled screams of politicians telling you how the world will come to a most unpleasant end if you vote for candidate X over candidate Y.
Elections matter, and your vote is important. The people we select for public office are tasked with making decisions that affect our daily lives. I often tell people the least important vote they’ll ever cast is for President. The people who serve on school boards, city councils, county commissions, and in the Kansas Legislature are closer to you, and their policies touch your lives everyday.
So, what am I supposed to do?
First off you can vote.
There were some text messages that came out over the weekend with inaccurate information about polling locations. The Secretary of State even issued a warning about it, and there was local reporting on the messages.
If you want to check your polling location, get a sample ballot, or check on your advance mail ballot - this is the place. It’s run by the Kansas Secretary of State, and it includes solid information to help you vote.
In Reno County, you can visit the Reno County Clerk’s page. It has all the information about early voting in the county.
Secondly, you can help me out
➡️Share social media content!
As we move into the final days of the campaign, you can simply like, comment, and share posts to increase their reach and get the information to more voters. We have advertisements, videos, pictures, posts - and you can help spread it all from the comfort of your pajamas! Look for content on both my personal and campaign Facebook pages.
➡️Use your Facebook profile picture as a digital yard sign!
For the next week, if you replace your profile picture with my yard sign image, you’ll help raise awareness of our campaign in the last days before Nov. 8.
Download the image below. You can find instructions on replacing your profile picture here.
➡️Make phone calls
We need volunteers to call voters on the phone to remind them to get to the polls.
This may be done on your time schedule. Contact Jeff Stroberg at RenoCountyDems@gmail.com or 620.259.0993 for details. You will be given clear instructions and support to help with these efforts. And it won’t take long at all.
➡️Drop literature
This project needs volunteers willing to deliver literature to friendly households’ front doors. Our goal is to motivate and inform people to get out to vote. You do not need to knock on doors or speak with the residents. It is drop and go.
Our last ‘walk party’ will be on Saturday, Nov 5. Swing by the Democrats’ office at 10:00 A.M. Saturday to pick up a walk packet. (Green house south of Dillon’s on 5th and Adams - look for the banner).
It takes about an hour to complete one packet. Bring a friend and take two packets!
Later, we will meet at Salt City Brewery at 1:30 P.M. to relax and chat.
A few final thoughts…
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for the day after the election. So many of you have given your time, skills, effort, and energy to this campaign, and I can’t tell you how much that means to me. It’s humbling, and fills my heart with gratitude. I will say thank you, but it doesn’t feel like enough.
When the Nov. 8 election is over, we’ll all be able to take a breath. But the next phase of work begins. For me, if voters so chose, I’ll be preparing to return to Topeka for the 2023 legislative session. Once there, I’ll keep working for Hutchinson and Kansas - doing all I can to serve our shared interests.
As always, thank you for all you’ve done. This community, and many communities around the state, never fail to remind me of all the good that’s in Kansas.
