That Podcast in Hutch - JoAnn Rivera
Director of nursing in intensive care talks about the strain and toll on nursing staff during the Covid-19 pandemic
In this week’s episode of That Podcast in Hutch, I visit with JoAnn Rivera, RN, CCRN and Director of Patient Care Services, Intensive Care Unit at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson.
Throughout our conversation, JoAnn talks about the challenges nursing staff has faced in the past several years, as well as the emotional toll nurses absorbed while dealing with an unknown illness, increased patient loads, and entirely new work protocols required to help patients and prevent the spread of Covid.
She also talks about some of the lessons learned throughout the pandemic, and how some of the adjustments made to ensure patient safety could provide long-term benefits to patients throughout the years.
This episode provides an insight into the lives and work of the people who served on the front line of a global health crisis, right here in our community. And while this story is from Hutch, it was replicated, and repeated in various forms in every community across the state and country.
