That Podcast in Hutch - Mark and Phoebe Davenport
Couple explains their journey in property development - and their transition from life in Brooklyn, NY, to living in the Midwest and investing in downtown Hutchinson.
I first met Mark and Phoebe Davenport last spring, over a cup of coffee at Crow & Co, on the corner of Sherman and Main. Mark had emailed me, and asked if I’d have time to visit with them. I was in the middle of the 2021 Legislative session at the time, but we quickly set to arranging at time to meet.
We struck it off right off the bat. They were warm and friendly, and they had this interesting life that I couldn’t stop asking about. I think we spend the better part of two hours together, just getting to know each other.
What’s more, this fascinating couple was investing heavily in downtown Hutchinson. They purchased the Plaza Towers building, the Leon Place Building, and later the Hoke building - which is being converted into a boutique hotel.
In this episode, the Davenports share their story of making the move from Brooklyn, NY, to the Midwest - and their commitment and investment in downtown Hutchinson. We also talk some about the sort of things that drew them to Kansas - and what we might want to consider if our state is going to be successful in attracting the next generation of investors and creators to our communities.
I think you’ll find a lot to like in this episode - and there’s an equally good chance you’ll come to like the Davenports every bit as much as I do.
