That Podcast in Hutch - Talking Tombstones
Where history, Halloween, and theater meet at the same place.
This week’s edition of That Podcast in Hutch features Lynsey Becher, who is the artistic director for Stage 9 in Hutchinson. She talks about the upcoming production of Talking Tombstones - which is in its 15th year - and a new feature called “If Walls Could Talk.”
To get to her, though, you have to endure a few minutes of me rambling on about my experiences writing and performing with Talking Tombstones.
Talking Tombstones is one of those real gems in the Hutchinson Community. We find interesting people who have lived here, research their lives, and build a theatric production around them. And since it happens near Halloween every year, the event is held in the spookiness of Eastside Cemetery.
I’ve had the privilege of filling the role of playwriter for Talking Tombstones for the past several years. This year I didn’t write for Talking Tombstones, but instead was able to contribute for “If Walls Could Talk.”
If Walls Could Talk will take participants on a walking tour of Hutchinson - and at different downtown buildings they’ll get to enjoy a performance that highlights key elements of the building, and its history.
I mentioned in an earlier episode with Ben Jones who directed Arsenic and Old Lace for the Family Community Theatre the amount of effort and commitment that goes into the productions. We have really talented people in our community who are willing to sign up for weeks or months of practice so that we all have some fun things to do. And I’m thankful that they live here, and do the things that make our community richer.
If Walls Could Talk will begin at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22. Talking Tombstones will perform at 6 and 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23. If you’re around, take the time to enjoy this local treasure. For more information, or to buy tickets, visit Stage 9.
